My name is Cliff de Laat, I was born in 1981 in Tilburg in the Netherlands. Together with my wife Esther I have been keeping reptiles for about 14 years now. When you have been enjoying this beautiful hobby for so long it slowly becomes a part of your DNA. I wouldn’t know what to do without my animals, this hobby has become a part of who I am.

The past years I have had the honor to keep about all the animals I used to admire as a teenage boy. Caring as best as I can for my animals is what is most important to me. Breeding with them is ‘the icing on the cake’. I have a strong preference for keeping monitors and uromastyx, especially tree monitors are extra special to me.

Because I have a very high demanding job I feel very blessed to have my wife who supports me and helps in taking care of my animals. She is the main reason that I can enjoy my hobby the way that I do. Every time she puts on her gloves to catch a monitor to dig up eggs or what not I realize again and again that she is the perfect girl for me.

I started out modestly with some bearded dragons, as most reptile keepers, but after my first uromastyx (acantinura) and monitor(acanthurus) I was absolutely hooked. Every year my collection is expanded with new animals and every now and then I also have to say goodbye to an animal unfortunately. It’s always very sad to lose an animal, all you can do is treat them the best that you can.

I met Kamiel and Michel soon after I started keeping reptiles and we quickly became friends. That’s when I decided to expand the website that I already had by asking them to join in. And that’s how became the website that it is today. Michel is a retired reptile keeper at this point but me and Kamiel have only become more addicted. Together we enjoy this great hobby and share our successes and losses. True friends who share a the same bizarre passion. I hope you will enjoy and it will provide you with a lot of information and fun. If you have any questions feel free to ask them and we will try to answer them as best as we can.
